How does a Chicago-style hot dog compare to a New York hotdog?
What’s the difference between a Chicago-style hot dog and New York wiener?
The questions we get asked most are, “What’s in a Chicago style hot dog?” Do you know how a Chicago-style hot dog compares to a New York hot dog?
It may have started with Chicago’s polish community and their sausage affinity. A Chicago hot dog, Chicago Red Hot or Chicago Dog starts with an all beef frankfurter, with a natural casing, on a poppy seed bun and has a unique set of condiments on it that actually doubles the size of the sandwich, not to mention doubling the flavor!
Chicago Red Hots are usually steamed or boiled, but if you want it grilled you ask for a Char Dog. We add thin sliced tomatoes, chopped onions, a thin slice of dill pickle that is as long as the bun, sport peppers (optional), green relish and mustard for a taste that will keep you coming back for more! (We finish them off with a little celery salt.)
Some faithful like a little sauerkraut or grilled onions in addition to or replacing the onion.
We’re all in agreement that KETCHUP IS NOT INCLUDED! (But we’ll put it on for you if you like!)
